Could our trends make a political and economic statement?

Our fashion history has shown us the moods of our society. Way back In the 1920's they were into extravagant things had corsets, drop hemlines and fitting garments. The great depression struck America which caused made fashion just be one word ''PRACTICAL''. Woman began to wear scrap fabric and the children had no choice but to wear hand me downs. History repeats itself. We are in economic depression the word ''PRACTICAL'' fashion becomes a trend. People are shopping at thrift stores just to be unique within a reasonable price. Could fashion go back to the basics? No big time designers just jeans and a Tee-shirt. We saw the military look became a big trend and maybe that was a political statement to us for the war time. We also had the plaid trend which you still see is the ''All American look''. Its summer you see bright neon's, pinks, oranges also seeing many 50's inspired dresses on the fashion runways. They used 50 inspirations on how the economy used to be stable and when people actually believed our country was on TOP the world. Downfall now. Can fashion reflect the mood of our society? Could it represent the desire and wants of our future?
